Karen Gureghian, MBA, SPHR

Karen Gureghian Past President

Startupshoppe, Inc.

Karen has been an active member of HRP-MN since 2003. She has served on the board as a Co-Chair for Professional Development which is responsible for organizing the Fall and Spring Conferences. She has served as VP Membership 2008-2009, President-Elect 2009-2010, and President 2010-2011. Karen grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota and lived in Evansville, Indiana and Santa Barbara, California before returning to Minnesota in 1994.

Karen has over 16 years of HR generalist experience in small and mid size organizations. In 2003 Karen launched her own HR Consulting firm, Startupshoppe, Inc. which specializes in implementing the human resources function for small or start-up companies. In this role Karen works directly with owners and presidents of companies and acts as a strategic HR business partner and implementation specialist in the areas of Recruiting, Benefits, HR function set-up and Employee Handbooks.

Prior to launching her consulting business with Startupshoppe, Karen was most recently at Xilinx, a company in the programmable logic industry based out of San Jose, California, as a Human Resources Manager supporting the CVI division. At Xilinx, Karen was part of an internal team which focused on retaining the top 10 ranking status for Xilinx in Fortune Magazine “Best Places to Work For”. This team ensured company policies and procedures paralleled company values and culture. Before Xilinx, Karen worked for FSI International as a Human Resources Representative during a period of high growth in the semi-conductor industry. Karen “grew up” in the staffing industry since her father and step-mother own one of the first temporary staffing and PEO firms in Wisconsin.

Karen is SPHR certified. She obtained her BA in Business Administration and her MBA, with a concentration in Human Resources, from the University of St. Thomas. In addition to her consulting business, she currently works as an adjunct faculty member in the College of Management at Metropolitan State University teaching HR courses on-line and in the class room.
