9:00-9:45 Opening Keynote- Great Questions for HR Healthcare and HR Leaders
Jason DeRusha, Reporter, WCCO
What impact will Health Care Reform have on employees? On the company I work for? Good questions! The Health Care Reform bill has been passed and it seems it has generated more questions than answers. My inbox was full of questions when it passed from the “person on the street.” They want to know how it will affect them, what it will cost, how benefits will be changed in the companies they work for. This keynote will highlight the themes of questions people want answers to; which will help you as an HR expert focus your communications with employees as well as working with your CEO, CFO and HR team
9:45-10:00 Break and visit with vendors
10:00-10:45

A Personal Perspective on HR Reform
Presenter: Helen Strike, Chief Nursing Officer, St. Joseph Hospital
Helen will be speaking about the impact of today’s healthcare realities that are present on a daily basis with her patients and at her hospital each and every day, such as the aging population, the uninsured and how healthcare is financed. Helen will share from her personal perspective as chief nursing officer at her hospital some patient and staff stories that her team is faced with in our current healthcare system. Having recently taken part in the negotiations and work stoppage with the Minnesota Nurses Association, she will speak personally of how healthcare finances and decreasing reimbursement are affecting some of the proposals that the nurses believe tie directly to safe patient care. Also the struggle that hospital administrators face with the requirement for increasing transparency of patient safety and quality outcomes in an environment of decreasing resources and reimbursement to provide support at the bedside. These are the realities of healthcare reform. Helen will share her perspective as a Canadian Nurse on the hope she feels that healthcare reform can bring to patients and hospitals and her perspective on what we can do in healthcare right now to turn the tide towards a more healthy healthcare system. Helen will attempt to inform and inspire a more personal understanding of what our hospitals and healthcare providers are facing today and her hopes for the future.

10:45-11:05 Break and visit with vendors
11:05-11:50 Breakout sessions on Healthcare Reform

Federal Reform and the Impact on Small Business.

Presenter: Geoff Bartsch, HealthPartners
The passage of the Patient Protection and Accountable Care Act (PPACA) will have sweeping changes on health care, health benefits and health insurance. As these changes role out over the next four years, many of them will be directed at small businesses and health insurance benefits for small business. This presentation will walk through the impacts of PPACA on small businesses in the immediate future, the short term future and the long term future. We will let you know what you need to do today, what you need to think about for tomorrow and how the landscape for small business health insurance may be changing in the future.

Health Care Reform: Health care reform and you
Presenter: Phil Stalboerger, Vice President for Policy and Legislative Affairs, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota
The details of health care reform will continue to be laid out by the state and federal government in the coming months and years. Blue Cross is committed to providing you with the most recent information and updates on the many aspects of reform. You’ll learn what’s new, how it affects you, and get answers to your questions.

Impact of Health Care Reform on Large Employers
Presenter: Jay McLaren, Director of Government Relations, Medica
Enactment of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in March not only marked the end of the legislative process for federal health care reform in Congress but also marked the beginning of a long process of implementing the new law. Jay will discuss the impact PPACA and the new federal regulations will have on large employers, including automatic health insurance enrollment for new employees, new tax reporting requirements, future financial penalties, and many more. Some of these new regulations require execution of short term strategies to comply with the new law and others require long-term planning that would involve a broader audience of internal customers. Learn more about the post-reform landscape for large employers so that your company can execute the strategies and put the right planning in place to prosper in a post-reform environment.
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-1:45 Human Resources 2010 – Trends and Priorities
Presenter: Mary Weber, Vice President of HR, CSM Corporation
Human Resources Management is directly impacted by a myriad of external and internal forces. 2010 – from recession to recovery - has been a landmark year of shifting tides and conditions that are driving the HR agenda. Health care reform, consumerism, employee retention, changing workforce demographics, talent management, leadership development and an increased focus on HR compliance topics are all impacting our strategies. This thought provoking session will discuss these key trends and more. Hear how one midsized company’s HR Executive is shaping strategies to stay ahead of the change curve.
1:45-2:15 Break and visit with vendors
2:15 - 3:50 Breakout Sessions on Leadership
Participants will have the opportunity to participate in two of the three leadership breakout sessions. Each session will last 45 minutes.

Re-Energizing the Leadership Team
Presenters: Laurie Schmidt & Deborah Fowler
Leaders and managers at all levels have been pushed to their limits by economic uncertainties, continuous change, and big shifts in ways of doing business. It is increasingly difficult to anticipate the future and control the destiny of the team, department or enterprise. Better decisions and actions are needed while the traditional tools of planning, budgeting, and resource allocation are not serving in this time of “permanent whitewater.” In this interactive session, we will look at recent research that describes the personal toll that the economic downturn has taken on leaders. Participant will then be able to sample several creative tools and processes that can help to re?energize teams and work groups. We will focus on creative new mindsets and practices that can help bring about more collaboration, increased flexibility, and better alignment of people.

Aligning and Creating Anew within HR
Presenter: Jan Dick, OD Practice Leader, The Bailey Group
As the demands of business performance and the organization escalate, HR continues to strive to reform itself – “creating anew” to contribute to the success of the business. This session explores strategic changes HR can make within its roles and responsibilities, organizational design and skill sets and its focus to best meet the business challenges and opportunities for greater impact.

Design to Thrive: Learning from the Recession and Revitalizing High-Performance Culture
Presenter: Don MacPherson, President and Co-Founder, Modern Survey
Don will share the results of U.S. workforce engagement studies over the last two and a half years. In this interactive discussion, MacPherson will show how drivers of engagement – particularly pride and loyalty – have fluctuated since the economic downturn. By reviewing what has happened historically, MacPherson will detail what organizational leaders can expect to see happen with employee engagement as recessionary recovery continues. Participants will learn how factors outside of the workplace impact employee engagement, and what organizations can do to re-energize and retain their best employees.
